Robert Sefton is bringing South Carolina’s coastal environment to life this month with the exhibit “High on the Lowcountry.”
Sefton’s work will be on display the Art League of Hilton Head Gallery inside the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina from July 26 to Aug. 20. An opening reception is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. July 27.
Sefton formed an early appreciation for art early on by taking college level art classes while still in high school. When he started college, the popular art style at the time did not suit him, so instead he studied chemistry.
After graduating from the University of Pittsburg, Sefton worked in the paint, pigment and industrial color industry.
Now a retired Lowcountry resident, Sefton is primarily focused on painting in oil. Having worked with pigment technology and commercial color, Sefton’s artwork comes from a unique perspective.
“The technology of color and color measurement that I learned gives me a different perspective than artists who have a more traditional education in fine arts,” Sefton says on his website okatiepainter.com.
Sefton is a member of the Low Country Plein Air Society and Sun City All About Art Club. The exhibit represents his view of all the local coast has to offer.
